  Arba

On the high land of Friuli, near to the pedemontana area, between the rivers Colvera and Meduna, there is Arba.Agricolture, practiced by centuries, changed the territory that shows signs of men’s tenacity; for many years the inhabitants were farmers, particularly specialized in vines and cereals cultivation.. In this area have been found a lot of archeological reperts, now kept in the Antiquarium of Tesis, a little museum open to visitors. Very interesting are the rests of a roman villa discovered in the area called “Pras dal Cjampaneli”; the objects found there show the presence of celtic people in the past.
The Parish of St. Michael the Archangel is located in the centre of the village; his style is neoclassic, like was used in the nineteenth century, when has been built. By an old tradition, still existing in the village, Arba’s people was asking from long to build a new church, instead of the old one, over the old cemetery, but the clerical authorities denied the permit, so people decided secretly to build the Church during the night, just in that place. These facts happened in 1836.
The village, after the earthquake of 1976, has been rebuilt. Arba has a simple and regular structure, with short houses along the main streets. Not far from the Church there is the Municipality, the most interesting building of the village: planned in 1967 by architects Glauco Gresleri and Silvano Varnier, it has been constructed between years 1969 and 1973 during the administration guided by mayor Elso Miotto, inside an harmonious context. The traditional building comes like destroyed and recomposed but also thrown again in this completely organic building with the surrounding city woven. The external curtain wall, realized with the typical stone of the zone, obtained from the bed of Colvera torrent and the traditional sloping roof, is an affirmation of belonging to Friuli’s culture; the Town hall is a real modern and traditional civil center, flagship of the city woven of Arba.
Among the annual events of the village, particularly successful recovers the summery fest “sot il crupisignâr” that is kept in the center of the country, it previews dances, music, typical food of Friuli, games,, sport games and entertainment from the end of July until mid-August; festivities on the occasion of the Saint Patron start from 29 September until the first Sunday of October, with music, games, climbed of the bell tower; traditional is the bonfire in the evening of five January.
The land is suitable to make walks in plain, in areas and lands that maintain the characteristics of the past, with lanes, natural hedges, ditches and the presence of animals in the wild like rabbits, pheasants, foxes, squirrels, rates, wild boars………..
The nature of lands and the practicability of roads allow to make beautiful pathways by bike or by motorcycle.
